Bio
Gerald Livin was born in Belgium in 1962. Today he lives and works in Montreal.
As he studied advertising, he quickly recognised that he was more interested in photography. He found a job as a photographer’s assistant and spent a year as an apprentice, which confirmed the soundness of his chosen career. He was passionate about creating images.
In 1987, he embarked on a career as a fashion photographer in Brussels, soon spreading to France, where he began shooting advertisements. Until 2012, he produced images for international advertising projects.
After 25 years as a commercial photographer, he finally decided to focus exclusively on his artistic work. Since 2013, he has been showing his photographs on his website and has participated in exhibitions in various galleries, both in Quebec and in Brussels.
His explorations have generated a radically new vision of his images. The work corpus represents the fragmented memory of his wanderings. It is figured by photographs of the places which he narrows down to focus on the very essence of the detail.
In 2017, he launched “Rencontre avec sa propre photographie”, An encounter with one's own photographic methodology, RPP can be defined as a mentorship. It consists of personal coaching tailored to the individual's photographic skills, with a view to fostering and/or consolidating creative photographic skills.
